Adam Werner

Fingerstyle Guitarist • Composer • Award-Winning Producer • Performer • Recording Artist
Los Angeles, California

Adam Werner is a Los Angeles–based fingerstyle guitarist, composer, and award‑winning instrumental music producer whose work blends progressive fingerstyle techniques with deeply expressive, emotionally driven compositions. Known for his nuanced touch, unconventional tunings, and percussive acoustic vocabulary, Werner’s playing traces its lineage to the late Michael Hedges, while expanding outward into a highly personal and introspective musical language focused on storytelling and human experience rather than technical display.

Raised in California, Werner began his musical life immersed in rock guitar, drawing early inspiration from players such as Randy Rhoads, Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani. In the early 1990s, he formed the progressive rock band IMAGINE, where he developed a reputation for intricate compositions featuring odd meters, unconventional harmonic movement, and textural layering. His artistic direction shifted decisively after discovering the acoustic music of the Windham Hill label—particularly the work of William Ackerman and Michael Hedges—leading him to pursue acoustic guitar as his primary voice and medium.

Werner’s debut label release, Signatures, was recognized as a 2008 Grammy Awards contender for Best New Age Album, earning praise for its emotionally intense compositions and technically refined execution. The album merges traditional fingerstyle guitar with percussive elements and subtle electric bass textures, establishing Werner as a distinctive voice in contemporary instrumental guitar music.

As a recording artist and producer, Werner has also been honored with an Independent Music Award win for Best Instrumental Music Producer, along with nominations for a Zone Music Reporter (ZMR) Awardtwo One World Music (OWM) Awards, and a Hollywood Music in Media Award (HMMA). His album, deep,” features collaborations with internationally respected musicians including Michael ManringJim “Kimo” West, and Samite, and is widely described as music created to encourage healing, resilience, and emotional reconnection.

Throughout his career, Werner has performed extensively as a solo artist and in collaboration with members of the Woodsong Acoustics Group, sharing stages with artists such as Alex de Grassi, Michael Manring, William Coulter, Benjamin Verdery, Antonio Calogero, John Keawe, and Chris Yeaton. He also produced the critically regarded compilation Woodsongs: An Acoustic Guitar Collection, featuring previously unreleased works by many of these artists, further cementing his role as both curator and collaborator within the acoustic guitar community.

Werner’s artistic path was profoundly altered by two near‑fatal accidents, the first in December 2018 and the second in 2022. The initial accident left him with extensive, life‑threatening injuries and required years of intensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and psychological recovery. During this period, Werner lost his physical and emotional ability to play guitar and believed he might never return to music. For nearly a decade, survival and healing replaced creativity as his primary focus.

In 2025, Werner publicly documented his gradual return to music through his ongoing series My Journey Back… A Creative Alchemy, marking what he describes as a “resurrection of the artist” within him. Rather than a simple technical recovery, this return represents a deeper reconnection to his inner voice, creativity, and sense of purpose. His recent performances and recordings reflect a quieter, more contemplative musical direction, shaped by lived experiences, resilience, and a renewed commitment to authenticity.

Today, Adam Werner continues to compose, perform, and share music as an act of healing and connection—both for himself and his listeners—affirming the enduring power of human‑made music to express transformation, perseverance, and hope.
